About This Place

Nestled on a quiet stretch of Winner Road in Independence, Missouri, Englewood Cafe is a charming local gem that delivers hearty, satisfying American diner fare in a down-to-earth, welcoming environment. If you’re searching for a truly comforting breakfast or a classic lunch spot with generous portions, this unpretentious eatery is exactly where you want to be.

The cuisine here is best described as timeless comfort food with an elevated small-town flair. Their menu offers a delicious range of favorites that showcase the very best of traditional breakfast and lunch dishes. Start your day with their renowned Biscuit and Gravy—fluffy biscuits smothered in rich, savory sausage gravy that feels like a warm embrace on a plate. Fans rave about the Ultimate Omelette, crafted with fresh ingredients and served alongside golden hash browns and your choice of toast or biscuits.

Lunch is equally inviting with standout offerings such as the colossal Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, a local favorite, generously sized to cover half the plate and complemented perfectly by fresh-cut fries. As one visitor, Scott Paxton, shared, this tenderloin is “exceptionally tender,” paired with crisp lettuce, onion, tomato, mayo, and a hint of freshly ground horseradish, creating a robust and memorable flavor experience. The Double Bacon Cheeseburger and Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich also earn top marks for their hearty, satisfying qualities.

Englewood Cafe's menu doesn’t stop at savory — their desserts deserve equal attention. Daily selections of pies and cakes, like the crowd-pleasing Lemon Meringue Pie, create a perfect finish to any meal. Alongside these, comforting beverages including sweet tea, root beer, and rich hot chocolate round out the experience.

The atmosphere at Englewood Cafe is delightfully unpretentious and homey, embodying the true spirit of a neighborhood diner. Customers consistently praise the staff for their warmth and attentiveness. Savannah Stussy perfectly sums it up: “Love the staff so much!! Love the cooks’ food and the welcoming environment—each experience is wonderful! 10/10 recommend for a home style lunch/breakfast.” Whether you’re grabbing a quick meal or settling in for a relaxed dining experience, you’ll feel like part of the family here.

For those seeking comfort, big flavors, and excellent value, Englewood Cafe is not just a place to eat, but a local tradition that invites you to savor good food and great company every time you visit.

This is a little hole in the wall cafe. To be honest, from outside, it doesn't look like much. It really doesn't look special from the inside either, but this little cafe has it where it counts! I had an exceptionally tender, tenderloin. It took up over half of the plate (and it was a large plate). It was Served with lettuce, onion, tomato, mayo, and fresh ground horseradish. The fries were fresh and amazingly crisp. The pie is what every diner hopes for...... amazing. I recommend the pecan. I was extremely impressed with the staff, you could hear them laughing, singing, and taking with each other and their guests. Every single one of them truly seemed to enjoy what they were doing. Thank you Englewood Cafe, I will be back.

This café provides consistently excellent service and high-quality food. I have always had a positive experience. The Spanish omelet, served with hash browns and a choice of toast or biscuit (with gravy available for an additional charge), is highly recommended.

Good food, generous portions, and good service. I usually go for their French toast combo, and they also make a pretty good burger. Always check the boards for daily specials, and definitely save room for pie!

If you're at The Englewood, you're gonna eat good! Set back off Winner Road with parking in front. A local business serving up small town diner fare! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, it's going to be great food and good portions. They have excellent burgers and sandwiches, and any breakfast plate is a guaranteed good start to your day. bet there is never less than a dozen different pies and cakes you can select from for a luscious dessert. This is in a neighborhood that has been getting a bit of a facelift, so you may find different businesses close by to enjoy. Exactly as any great cafe should be!

This is your typical hometown diner. They have recently updated their booths and menu. Servers are always on the go and always pleasant to customers. We love this place for breakfast and lunch. Sometimes we go eat breakfast and bring dinner home to go. To go is almost always their giant tenderloin sandwich. They have great omelets and decent biscuits and gravy.

The food was great and the portions were good I try to watch how other people and the tenderloin is awesome. Double Cheeseburgers with onion rings were great. Open-faced or hot sandwiches are very good. The price is fair. Good people and a chill environment along with the pies......
